last night

there once were two girls. one from adelaide. one from perth. a primitive chat program on the internet called mIRC meant a chance meeting of the two girls. in typical tragic teenage style they ditched the internet for long letters and mixed tapes. tori. pj harvey. hole. veruca salt. one girl's parents took a chance and flew her to stay with the other girls family. 10 years on and they had only been in each other's actual company 5 times. but the letters kept on and on and on. 12 years on and they both live in the same city. Last night as they both sat and let the amazing music of tori amos wash over them they realised that she had literally been the soundtrack to their friendship for all these years.....
here's to 12 more years (and more and more!) of friendship Sars. thankyou for a beautiful birthday present. i love you!

hilarious

kee and i are fond of leafing through vintage knitting/crochet patterns in op shops and absolutely losing it with laughter over how ridiculous some of them are.....
handmade by mother is a hilarious ode to all things stupid in the world of vintage craft

hot

it was 34 degrees today and i can't say i'm all that happy about it! the western australian in me is dwindling and i think i've started to enjoy the fresher weather of melbourne....nonetheless i'm sitting here with sticky thighs, flannel on back of neck, cooking a curry from a charmaine solomon's south east asian cook book (published in 1972 and found by me in an op shop somewhere) and waiting for K to get home from rockclimbing.

at swim two bird's beautiful crochet is providing endless inspiration........

weekend

spent a lovely (albeit tiring!) weekend with the fam down the coast. the weather was perfection. just the right kind of spots for three boys to explore - rockpools, dinosaur caves, endless beaches.

these are our cousin laura's kids, who sadly passed away in may of this year. for having lost their mum so recently, these kids are doing incredibly well. they are so full of love and spending a couple of days with them and receiving all their cuddles and laughing at all their jokes and mishaps was an absolute honour.....cheesy i know!

haha - but boy is my body sore from picking up, cuddling, holding whilst sleeping, stroking, feeding, changing, suncream-ing, keeping still! three energetic boys are a handful!

i love a sunburnt country

i guess everyone thinks the country in which they are born is pretty darned unique and beautiful.

weekends away like these make me feel quietly proud i know exactly how this sun feels, exactly how this bush smells and exactly how beautiful it is to swim in these rivers.

(p.s. what these photos don't show is exactly how uncomfortable it is when someone forgets the pillows.....as a result kee popped a rib and had to go straight to the osteo when we got home!!!)
