merry christmas and a happy new year. we'll be back on 12th jan....
you'll find us at north cott beach, under the old 70's beach umbrella with a six pack buried in the sand.

last night

there once were two girls. one from adelaide. one from perth. a primitive chat program on the internet called mIRC meant a chance meeting of the two girls. in typical tragic teenage style they ditched the internet for long letters and mixed tapes. tori. pj harvey. hole. veruca salt. one girl's parents took a chance and flew her to stay with the other girls family. 10 years on and they had only been in each other's actual company 5 times. but the letters kept on and on and on. 12 years on and they both live in the same city. Last night as they both sat and let the amazing music of tori amos wash over them they realised that she had literally been the soundtrack to their friendship for all these years.....
here's to 12 more years (and more and more!) of friendship Sars. thankyou for a beautiful birthday present. i love you!

hilarious

kee and i are fond of leafing through vintage knitting/crochet patterns in op shops and absolutely losing it with laughter over how ridiculous some of them are.....
handmade by mother is a hilarious ode to all things stupid in the world of vintage craft

hot

it was 34 degrees today and i can't say i'm all that happy about it! the western australian in me is dwindling and i think i've started to enjoy the fresher weather of melbourne....nonetheless i'm sitting here with sticky thighs, flannel on back of neck, cooking a curry from a charmaine solomon's south east asian cook book (published in 1972 and found by me in an op shop somewhere) and waiting for K to get home from rockclimbing.

at swim two bird's beautiful crochet is providing endless inspiration........

weekend

spent a lovely (albeit tiring!) weekend with the fam down the coast. the weather was perfection. just the right kind of spots for three boys to explore - rockpools, dinosaur caves, endless beaches.

these are our cousin laura's kids, who sadly passed away in may of this year. for having lost their mum so recently, these kids are doing incredibly well. they are so full of love and spending a couple of days with them and receiving all their cuddles and laughing at all their jokes and mishaps was an absolute honour.....cheesy i know!

haha - but boy is my body sore from picking up, cuddling, holding whilst sleeping, stroking, feeding, changing, suncream-ing, keeping still! three energetic boys are a handful!

i love a sunburnt country

i guess everyone thinks the country in which they are born is pretty darned unique and beautiful.

weekends away like these make me feel quietly proud i know exactly how this sun feels, exactly how this bush smells and exactly how beautiful it is to swim in these rivers.

(p.s. what these photos don't show is exactly how uncomfortable it is when someone forgets the pillows.....as a result kee popped a rib and had to go straight to the osteo when we got home!!!)

goin' to the river

well festival is over.....and spring is on it's way. this is an old photo from my old blog and this is when i used to live 5 minutes away from the beach in perth. life is definitely different in melbourne when it gets hot - you have to jump in the car/tram/train to get to a beach!

we are lucky enough to have 4 days off in a row (i have 5) and we've decided to pack up the car and head north to Big River.

so today i'm attempting to do a few things around the house (nothing better than coming home to a relatively clean house) and starting a mouse pile of a few things we'll take with us. hoping to spot some wildflowers. again - different to western australian country, victorian country does not have anywhere near as many wildflowers.

so to all melbournites - enjoy your tuesday public holiday!

sunday

a day off at last!

enjoying spring and fresh salad greens every day from the garden.

went with birthday money from mum to buy a lovely galvanised steel watering can, white oil for the kaffir lime tree, radish and dill seeds, teeny tiny creeping seaside daisies, potting mix, a new pot for my jellybean succulent and some more cos seedlings!

thanks mum!

(and kee is off to an interview for a potential apprenticeship.....fingers crossed!!!!)

last night

saw fischerspooner last night as part of the festival....
the jury is out......couldn't decide if i liked it but then i like the fact that i'm unsure - makes me like it all the more!
gosh - tired and at work for the 14th day in a row (thats why the previous sentence probably makes no sense at all!)
all i know is that i'm so happy to work with all the people that i do. i love them dearly

spring

spring was here.............(in my garden, at least!)

but now it's like winter is back again!

busy at work and planning on a quiet week...kee is rockclimbing in the grampians this week so lots of knitting, dvd's and some fringe festival shows are keeping me occupied in a very agreeable way!

hope your monday wasn't so bad....

September 21, 2009

weekend was great. kee was definitely surprised!

venus bay is truly beautiful. ate loads of food. home brew was just right and the woodfire was the perfect thing for stormy skies.

we'll be back there soon - for sure!

September 17, 2009

away

heading to the beach this weekend.....to surprise kee for his birthday!

the forecast is for low to mid 20's and this will be the last chance before the festival to have, albeit teensy, a little break

have a good one!

image found via it followed me home

p.s. you know that beautiful doily i posted about some weeks back? my older sister who lives up north in w.a. saw it and remembered it from her childhood. i knew it was from her nan but she told me that it was actually her mum's mum (her other nan!) who made it. my sister's mum died when she was young. so this is actually somewhat of a family heirloom. so i'm so, so, so, happy to be sending it back to her. this is why i love craft. seeing this doily bought a flood of emotions back for my sister. craft can be so important to family history!

weekend

moroccan feast and gardening were highlights of this weekend!

(weekends are so much more productive when you don't have a hangover)
